Day 12: Dad vs. Bull Snake

My dad is the coolest, bravest I guy I know. And I am not just saying that because growing up I thought he had super powers and beat up bad guys during the night, as most kids envision their fathers. Although I am much less gullible, I still believe he actually is pretty super; and if you had heard about his adventures and his stories you would come to think the same.

The other day I called him and complained about my life. This was his advice, “Be strong and eat more food.”

His actions; however, speak even louder than his words.

My dad is a farmer, once he was sitting on John Deere, trundling along a line of trees. He looked down at the steering wheel and there, right in front of him, poking out from the controls was a snake.

My dad is impossible to scare; my brother and I have been jumping out from behind doors for the last 20 years trying to startle him. This snake caused him to calmly shift into a lower gear and jump off the tractor. The snake then proceeded to slither into a tree. My dad was angry that he had been startled so he went up to the snake and punched him in the back.

Yup, he punched a bull snake in the back. This story is absolutely true, every part of it.

So the moral my friend is: if you’re afraid of something, metaphorically punch it in the back. Own that beast.
